Prevention And Cure For Ransomware Attacks

Ransomware is a part of malware in which there is an unauthenticated party locks the data in the victim’s device, generally through encryption, and in exchange of access, a sum of money is demanded. On receiving the payment, the data is decrypted and the independent access is granted to the victim again.

The person can receive Ransomware attacks due to monetary, personal, etc. type of motives. It is very different from other attacks as the victim is notified about the situation and money is asked for in a very straight forward manner. This method is illegal as a person doesn’t have access to his own private information. The most dangerous Ransomware attacks are done by WannaCry, Petya, Cerber, Locky and CryptoLocker  Ransomware. You have to follow some steps and show care to avoid Ransomware attacks. These steps are mentioned below so that it is easy for you to just follow them rather than figuring out what to do.

These steps include some dos and some don’ts which have to be followed strictly especially by a professional. It is very important for a person to protect his data from any loss. But, Ransomware attack is beyond data loss and it reaches to the extent of personal belongings of a person. This Ransomware can be spread through email attachments, software apps, infected storage devices or other files through internet. The login requirements of a certain person can be changed and the data inside can be encrypted in an inaccessible form. This process is called data kidnapping.

    Prevention and cure

There are different methods to use Ransomware and earn money. And, to protect your data against such attacks, one of the best methods is to make a backup of you data and update it regularly. This is the best method because you do not have to worry about any loss of access to your original data if you have the exact same copy of it.

Additionally, there must be an antivirus software installed in your original device. You must be careful before clicking on any link. Victims should do all they can to avoid paying ransoms. Many people say that they will have access to their files only if the ransom is paid.  The ransom is just like a bully who tires of the keep-away game, you likely will get your files back if you pay. But this is not the case with you. What is the guarantee that you will have your data back if you pay the amount? So you must not pay the ransom. If you pay him, there are many chances that he will try the same thing on others as well.

There are over 150 countries that have been infected by this Ransomware and some others are reporting for the same.  Some victims including, Santander, Deutsche Bank, FedEx and, most concerning, hospitals belonging to the U.K.'s National Health Service (NHS) have been tricked into such activities.
